PPCC 2026 – Conference on Protonic Ceramic Cells

The 8^th edition of the Prospects on Protonic Ceramic Cells (PPCC) workshop took place from 23–26 June 2026 at the Musée de la Romanité in Nîmes, France. The event brought together 80 participants from 14 countries and featured 45 presentations over two and a half days.
PPCC 2026 highlighted the rapid growth of the Protonic Ceramic Cell (PCC) community, with increasing international participation, particularly from Japan, Italy, and the Netherlands, as well as greater involvement from non-European countries such as Saudi Arabia, Chile, and Japan. The strong presence of industrial stakeholders further confirms the growing maturity and relevance of PCC technology. Participants praised the high scientific quality and organization of the workshop, reinforcing PPCC’s position as the leading conference for the PCC community.

The conference also demonstrated the sector’s shift toward higher technology readiness levels. Research is increasingly focused on applications and system integration rather than fundamental materials science. Notable examples include KAUST’s plans to integrate PCC stacks into a high-temperature electrolyzer pilot and HyET NoCarbon’s roadmap targeting MW-scale PCEC deployment from 2029. Ammonia production and decomposition using PCC technology emerged as a key research area, warranting a dedicated conference session.

The next PPCC event is expected to be organized as a special session within the World Hydrogen Energy Conference (WHEC), further increasing visibility for the PCC community and strengthening industry engagement.
